Body By Derby: Springfield Roller Girls

Previous Athletic Experience I've always been a very active/athletic person. Started jogging marathons with my Mom and older sister when I was a kid then started Track & Field when I was in school did that off and on up until high school. I also played basketball from consistently from 4th grade - high school and now Roller Derby!

Diet I drink Shakeology daily for nutrition, supplement, and eat lower sugar, lower fat. I'm more about portion control and rarely deny myself something.

Other Workout To help build up fundamentals, I've been doing additional practices with MAD Derby in Branson, MO once a week and just recently began skating with a newly-formed co-ed group, Team KaPow. Outside of derby, I have jam skated (hip hop and breakdance on roller skates) for nearly 14 years. I still keep up with it whenever possible. At home, I'll do some additional core strengthening and upper body.
Diet I am hypoglycemic (consistently low blood sugar levels) so I have to have some sort of intake about every four hours. As far as what I eat, my body began disagreeing with super fried/greasy food when I started in derby. So it wasn't necessarily by choice that I have to keep an eye out for what I eat, but it is certainly a win win.

Previous Athletic Experience Before my Jam Skating days, I spent 13 years in dance (tap, jazz, and ballet) and a couple years in basketball. I do know for myself that none of it compares to what I do now playing Derby. I never imagined at 31 being in better shape than I was at 19. It's a blessing!

Diet No, and it's what made me join roller derby. I wanted to continue to eat whatever way I wanted to by adding a physical activity into my routine. I did start drinking water for most of the day to help with hydration and only drink soda or tea for one meal a day.
