Laps in 5 minutes | I got them in under 5 when I needed to, and that's good enough for me! |
Previous Athletic Experience | I was born with the jock gene, whether I liked it or not. I was tallest in my class until freshman year of high school. In elementary school the gym teacher tried to recruit me for his football team. I played basketball from the time I could dribble until I graduated college. I played softball up through senior year of high school, then got into it again in co-ed leagues in college and beyond. I also tried volleyball freshman year, and threw shot put and discs in junior high. I have to tell you, being an "experienced athlete" had not prepared me physically or mentally for what I've been through in roller derby. I've learned more about my will power, my physical limits, and myself as a whole in the 5 years I've played derby than I ever did in my 20+ years playing other sports. I recommend sticking your neck out there and trying it to all women, prior athletic experience or not. |
