Body By Derby: Demolition City Roller Derby

Body By Derby is a figure study of active derby athletes to show the different body types of active skaters and the physical effects derby has on the players. Previous Athletic Experience I've played sports my entire life. I started with softball and tumbling, dropped the tumbling after I grew taller than everyone else and stuck with softball and basketball through high school. I also played some volleyball, soccer and tennis along the way.

Other Workout Running, biking, skating outdoors, some weight-lifting and plyo. Dog walking and dog running and dog chasing too. And rehab. I'm the queen of rehab exercises.
Diet I see food, I eat it. I only try to not eat ALL of the food at once. Portion control is key for me.
Laps in 5 minutes I got them in under 5 when I needed to, and that's good enough for me!
Previous Athletic Experience

I was born with the jock gene, whether I liked it or not. I was tallest in my class until freshman year of high school. In elementary school the gym teacher tried to recruit me for his football team.
I played basketball from the time I could dribble until I graduated college. I played softball up through senior year of high school, then got into it again in co-ed leagues in college and beyond. I also tried volleyball freshman year, and threw shot put and discs in junior high. I have to tell you, being an "experienced athlete" had not prepared me physically or mentally for what I've been through in roller derby. I've learned more about my will power, my physical limits, and myself as a whole in the 5 years I've played derby than I ever did in my 20+ years playing other sports. I recommend sticking your neck out there and trying it to all women, prior athletic experience or not.

Diet I've managed to cut out A LOT of the soda I was drinking (I still have one or two on the weekend though) and mostly just try to watch my calorie intake and that I'm getting a good variety of foods.
